Our make ready process was inadequate as several things were not functioning properly on arrival. We gave them a list and even met with the manager and got a noncommittal response. The furniture was in such disrepair that it was injuring the kids, again nothing they would do to remedy it. They balked at furnishing us a desk. The facilities staff were in general very rude and the whole building in such bad repair that they were terribly overworked, while making no headway. It appeared to us that they are running the property into the ground, not improving it at all.

If you have stayed in this particular housing before, was this a deciding factor for you to return and why?

Yes, mainly because of our familiarity with the neighborhood, which is really great. 2 years had passed since our previous stay and the building  had degraded much in that time. I would never stay there again. If there were another facility in the area that offered shuttle service to FSI we would stay at it.

I think Oakwood Crystal City has been making a ton of money from State folks and not using any of it to improve their facility; after all, until recently they've had no competition and we are all transient.  Their location is superb, but the carpet was thin around thresholds such that our feet would get poked by nails, nails were sticking out through the furniture, AC broke numerous times, shower had very low water pressure. All in all, being in the apartment was misery.
